As we nibble near roots
we can hear the earth
and smell the rain.
Praire dogs bark
and meadowlarks sing
in our company.
This is not evil
to have community
of such untamed civility.
There is strength in our numbers
as well as in our neighbors company.
Nature sustains us,
the changing of the song
marks time for our keep.
The barking of the dog
brings warning of invaders.
The thoughtless and greedy
act as children without equal.
The careful and considerate
act as students without teachers.
We are not the rubblers of worlds
whole planets they have left
sundered and dying.
We rejoice in the four seasons
and call one planet home.
Let's not act like them...
we can hear the Earth
of such untamed civility
with changes in the song.
Let's act as students without teachers
and rejoice in the four seasons
